As one of the most significant Linux distributions of the first half of 2026, is it truly worth upgrading to from version 24.04? Today, I spent the entire day performing a full installation and conducting in-depth testing; below, I share my genuine experience.

I. Major Updates Worth Noting

• Kernel Upgrade: Ships by default with the Linux 7.0.0 LTS kernel, offering further improvements in performance and hardware compatibility.
• GNOME 50: The desktop experience is smoother, with noticeable advancements in window management and gesture controls.
• Snap Optimizations: Launch speeds have improved significantly; combined with the new Snap daemon, the overall user experience is far superior to previous versions.
• Enhanced Security: Stricter AppArmor configurations are enabled by default, alongside strengthened support for Wayland.
• Developer-Friendly: Features improved support for container tools (Docker/Podman) and optimizations for Python environments.
